COVID-19 Testing

SoHum Health’s Laboratory offers rapid COVID-19 testing!

The SoHum Health Laboratory offers rapid COVID-19 testing, standard testing (most results within 3 to 4 days), and COVID-19 antibody testing. Testing is available by appointment only 7 days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at our hospital location, 733 Cedar Street in Garberville. Please call (707) 613-0055 to reserve your testing time-slot.

We have limited testing to the amount we can safely provide while also taking care of patients in our hospital and clinic. We can currently provide approximately 30 tests per day. If you have a provider’s order for a test, please let us know immediately.

SoHum Health continues to work to make the testing process as efficient as possible. We appreciate your patience as we adapt to widely fluctuating demand for COVID-19 testing.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q:  How long does it take?
A:  Once your specimen is collected, it takes approximately 90 minutes to test and report results.

Q:  What if I’m really sick?
A:  If you’re concerned that you have symptoms of COVID-19 and urgently need testing, we encourage you to contact your primary care provider.  We can work you in for testing if you have an order from a provider, even if the testing schedule is full.  If you believe you’re having a medical emergency, you can sign in to be seen in our Emergency Department.

Q:  How do I get my results?
A:  If your test result is positive, your doctor or a SoHum Health provider will call you at the phone number you provided. You can access your test results through your patient portal or by waiting until your test is finished to get a copy directly from our laboratory.  You can also come back on a later date and fill out a medical records release form, but it may take several days to get your results to you.

Q:  Is testing free?
A:  SoHum Health bills for COVID-19 virus testing services like any other service.  The CARES Act requires third-party payers, including Medicare, Medicaid (Medi-Cal), and health insurance companies to pay 100% of the costs of these services, but we cannot promise that they will do so. For California residents without insurance, there is a special program that may pay for testing for those who provide their personal information and apply for this special Medi-Cal benefit.  For those without insurance and who do not wish to sign up for the special Medi-Cal program, the charge for the test is $127.

Q: How often can I get the rapid test at SoHum Health?
A: Individuals are limited to a quantity of two tests in any given 30-day period.
