The California Wellness Foundation has awarded a $150,000 grant to the Southern Humboldt Community Clinic in Garberville. The grant will fund core operating support to provide primary health care services to low-income and uninsured residents of Southern Humboldt, Northern Mendocino, and Southwestern Trinity Counties.
“We’re thrilled to receive this grant from the California Wellness Foundation,” said Chelsea Brown, Foundation Director at SoHum Health. “Our Community Clinic serves as an entry point into the healthcare system for so many people, allowing them to access diagnostics, specialists, and other support services they may need. We really take a whole-person approach, and it’s wonderful to receive support to bolster this critical work into the future.”
Cal Wellness Foundation’s vision is for every resident of California to enjoy good health and experience wellness. Their mission is to protect and improve the health and wellness of the people of California by increasing access to healthcare, quality education, good jobs, healthy environments, and safe neighborhoods.
“In a region marked by rural isolation, high poverty, and limited infrastructure, Southern Humboldt Community Clinic stands as an anchor of community well-being and a vital economic driver, job creator, and hub,” said Jessica Martinez Pulido, Program Officer at the California Wellness Foundation. “We are proud to help sustain clinic operations and ensure continued access to comprehensive primary care for low-income residents.”
“Providing healthcare in an extremely rural and remote community like ours presents unique challenges,” said Shawna Kloiber, Clinic Manager. “Having this extra funding to allow us to provide more individualized support for our patients will go a long way to improve their overall health.”
The Southern Humboldt Community Clinic has been operating in Garberville for over 75 years and provides primary care, wellness exams, chronic disease management, routine cancer screenings, vaccinations, referral coordination, and patient support so they can reach their optimal health and wellness. The Clinic is currently accepting new and returning patients at every stage of life.
